Dubai Tower

As an engineering student, i know that the engineering never sleeps and we only need to look around to realize how the landscape can change.

And the truth is that the engineering never ceases to amaze us. We can see it in supper small and effective electronic equipments or also in those giant ships that ply the oceans. And another of the ways that the tecnology can amaze us and what we will speak of today, is the colossal buildings that can be seen in the most important cities of the world, in which almost no one knows the landscape concept, therefore the streets surrounding glass. Sure, construction is not easy, for some its completion may take several years.

Burj Dubai (Dubai Tower).

Located in the United Arab Emirates, in Dubai city, and would be costing something like 1,000 million dollars and its completion is projected to be the following year (2009)with an estimated height of 899 meters. Here it goes again, 899 meters! and 205 floors (the Taipei 101 tower, that now it’s the second tallest building has only 101 floors; while the “Torre Mayor”, it’s the tallest building in Mexico, with a height of 230 meters and has only 55 floors; imagine the difference in sizes), thus would be consolidating as the tallest skyscraper and structure of the world created by the man.

In 1998, the Malaysia’s Petronas Towers, with 452 meters of height, snatched the title of world’s tallest tower to the Sears Tower in Chicago USA. But 6 years later, in 2004, the Tapei 101 tower, located in Taiwan, snatched its record, with its 509 meters. And now, the Burj Dubai is entering in the fray, that since July 21, 2007 snatched the number one position to the Taipei 101 tower, but not being still completed, it cannot benamed with the official title of thetallest structure and skycraper. The tower’s actual situation shows that the tower is already in its final stage of construction, so it’s more probably that its final height of only 818 meters.

The builders of the tower keep the exact plans in secret for fear of being overtaken by a new competitor; by the same, there are rumors about what it’s the true final height, in some places is said that the final height will be up to 1,011 meters, that means 1 kilometer and 11 small meters more. It’s said too, that the dome of the tower will be an tensile steel estructure, if there is a last minute challenger, may well achieve a final height of up to 940 meters. what is a fact is that today, Dubai tower has broken all the height records that a estructure can have… Until his shadow on the floor holds the record for the longest shadow.
